When Your Flight Is Cancelled… and So Is Your Comfort Zone: Leadership Lessons from the Airport Floor ✈️🙃🙌

There we were—11 students, 3 chaperones, and one mission: to get to Washington, D.C. and kick off an unforgettable week with the next generation of world-changers.
Sounds simple, right?
Now imagine that flight getting delayed.

Seven times. 😅
Then cancelled. 😬
Then rerouted to another plane.
Which, of course, got delayed again.
And just when you think you’re finally in the clear, boarding passes in hand, you arrive at the gate only to hear:
“Ma’am… it looks like your tickets were accidentally cancelled.”
At 8 p.m.
After being at the airport all. day. long.
Cue dramatic pause.
Because this was the moment—the fork-in-the-road leadership lesson moment.
What do you do when things go sideways?
When your best-laid plans unravel and your patience wears thin?
When the kids are tired, the leaders are spent, and the airport snacks are not cutting it?
You get to choose your response.
Do you let frustration win?
Do you spiral into resentment or meltdown mode?
Or do you… dance?
Yeah. We danced.
Right there in the airport.

Because here’s the truth: our attitude is the one thing we can always choose.
We chose to trust that God was up to something—something we couldn’t see, something we didn’t know yet. We believed He wasn’t just detouring us… He was protecting us.
And wouldn’t you know it?
Right in the middle of that airport mess, God gave us a moment we’ll never forget.
We got to pray over an airport worker who hadn’t had someone pray for him in 19 years.
Nineteen.
I don’t know what that man was carrying, but I know Who was carrying him that day. And I know our delay wasn’t random—it was on purpose for a purpose.
But wait—God wasn’t done.
When our church family got word of what happened, they rallied.

They scooped us up and brought us straight to MVMT Camp, where we surprised the kids with a full-on praise and worship night—an unexpected grand finale to a long day and a holy kick-off to an incredible week ahead.
That night, these students didn’t just learn about leadership.
They lived it.
They learned that leadership isn’t about control—it’s about character.
It’s not about everything going according to plan—it’s about what you do when it doesn’t.
They learned that sometimes, life’s curveballs aren’t happening to us… they’re happening for us.
And listen—God doesn’t waste detours.
He uses them to refine us, teach us, grow us.
Even when it looks like a disaster, He’s working out the divine.
So here’s your Monday reminder, friend:
You’re not stuck—you’re just getting still.
You’re not failing—you’re just getting formed.
And you’re not alone—because God’s in the delay with you.
Now… go ahead. Dance in the waiting. 💃🏽💗
